U.N. (United Nothing) Who needs them?

The U.N. sees the US, UK and Spain take action, immediately our fair-weather friends join in token efforts!  My question is, why the U.N. is run by countries that only do things if there is something in it for them?  Shouldn't the U.N. be called the United Receivers or United Give Me Coalition?  After all, the US seems to pay the way for most everything anyways and most of our allies have shown

  they'll be happy to help, if we pay them enough!
