RE: Prepaid Legal

Prepaid's email: cgrant@prepaidlegal.com

Sir,

In March 2001, I emailed Prepaid Legal asking for the procedure to cancel membership. I received a reply saying I must write Prepaid Legal at 321 Main, Box 145, Ada, OK 74821-0145 and include my social security number on the correspondence. I sent them a request to cancel membership by certified mail. Kevin Jones signed receipt of this letter on April 3, 2001.

About two weeks later I received a phone call from a Mississippi representative of Prepaid Legal at the Dyre Law Firm in Jackson, MS. He asked why I wished to cancel. I explained. I contacted Prepaid Legal for a referral in Virginia. I called the Virginia attorney. He talked with me about a minute before he had something else to do. He never called back or was available when I called. I saw this service as useless and wished to cancel membership. The young man understood and thanked me for explaining my reason to him. Remember that HE called me in response to MY letter of cancellation.

Prepaid Legal drafted a letter to me on May 8, 2001, which stated, "We received your telephone call to cancel membership. However, we want to remind you a written request is required to actually cancel your membership."

I wrote my answer on their letter and enclosed a copy of the return receipt for the first letter of cancellation. This was the second fruitless written request to cancel membership.

With the exception of May, Prepaid Legal has deducted $16.00 from my checking account each month.
I filed complaints with both Oklahoma and Mississippi Bar Associations sending Prepaid Legal a copy. I received a phone call from a representative of Dyre Law firm about two weeks later.

I refused to talk to him since the first conversation with a representative proved not only fruitless, but an excuse for Prepaid Legal to claim I had called them. I have received no mail from them since the letter dated May 8, 2001.

Today I spent $15.00 at my bank to stop payment of any future deductions.

I want my money back, every penny they took since April 3, 2001, or $96.00 and counting.

Thank you,
Lula Porter
